First - It is NOT a worm!
Ringworm is a mold (fungus) anywhere on the skin that shows as a red, scaly patch, typically with a raised, bumpy ring around its outer borders. On the scalp it may flake off, feel sore to the touch and/or cause a patch of hair to fall out.
It can feel a little itchy.
Ringworm is highly contagious
It can spread from another person, your pets, touching hard or soft surfaces (e.g. clothing, towels, combs), or from working in the soil
How to tell the difference between ringworm or eczema
|Doesn't itch that much||Very itchy|
|Located anywhere on body except elbows and knees||Located on elbows and behind the knees|
|Circular raised border with clear center||Flatter borders, not always circular and not clear in the middle|
Treat ringworm with topical antifungal agents
Hydrogen Peroxide (footbath);
Ozone Therapy (Ozonated Olive Oil, limb-bagging);
• If not in near to the eyes, mix 1 tsp. liquid GSE to 2 ½ oz. water in a spray bottle. Spray affected area. If burning sensation is felt add a little more water.
• Alternatively, in the palm of your hand, put a few drops (about a dime-sized area) off carrier oil (e.g. coconut or olive oil) and thoroughly mix in ONLY 1 DROP of liquid GSE with your finger. Rub mixture into affected area. Use twice daily and continue for a while after symptoms have disappeared to ensure skin fungi has died. Prevent spreading by treating all areas simultaneously. Expose skin to fresh air and sunshine. Do not get in eyes.
